Soliciting Advice for cabinet refinish

I recently posted a thread on the radio forum about an RCA hi-fi console. the cabinet has had 55 years of use, and requires to be refinished. I have done this a few ways in the past, usually involving stripping the original finish, fine sanding and then applying wood filler flowed by multiple coats of tung oil, or Danish oil. The results have been good but I don't think that type of finish is appropriate for the RCA. I usually don't mess with stuff that needs cabinet repair, but this time I have. No veneer is lifted and there's no water damage, but the top has a lot of fine cracks, and the sides have small surface scratches and nicks. There's some dents on the edges too. I have seen some amazing work from the woodwork experts here and would like to solicit some advice on the best way to deal with an old beat up but generally solid cabinet before I jump in with both feet. I intend for the console to live in my living room so a top quality result is required, it literally has to look like new or it will be an eyesore.
