Take this with a grain of salt since I have not done much work on phones in the last 8 years....I built a collection I was happy with and basically stopped.
I quit the POTS service in this area, years ago. It was the General System, before Verizon and now it's Frontier. Their long distance charges were criminal!
I switched to TWC and it's very satisfactory, price and reception. The phone service is part of my internet modem. I don't think, that modem could support the old time mechanical ringer. It never even dawned on me.
