Nice little radio! Looks to be fairly typical of transistor portables of the sixties, but in excellent shape. I notice that it has the Conelrad markings on the tuning dial, which would indicate that it is probably from the very early sixties. Also, the manufacturer's address listed on the inside is pre-zipcode.
I could be wrong, but I don't think you can really do any damage by powering it up, as opposed to an AC powered set. If it doesn't work right off the bat, chances are good that one or more of its several electrolytic caps has gone south, just from the passage of time. Not that hard to replace in a radio like this.
