That 318 is about the toughest engine made in regards to overheating. The demo-derby boys up north of here swear by them.
But for winding them out, its not the first I heard of a spun bearing.
Once had a neighbor with a red '69 Dart - put on 340 heads, intake, headers etc, with no work down below.
One 4th to 3rd downshift at a high speed and it was knock-knock-knock.
You cannot hot-rod a 318 unless you get 340 pistons/crank etc. down below.
