My first VCR, in 1984, was a rebadged (as GE) Panasonic. It had a wired remote with all functions except, IIRC, recording. I didn't miss it after it quit six years later, as that cord was a real problem to deal with, not to mention a safety hazard. The VCRs I've had since, including my present Panasonic unit, all had IR remotes that controlled almost every function the machines supported, and of course there was no unsightly cable. Give me a VCR with an IR remote over a wired one any day.
