The speakers were powered through the hinges, but if you wanted to separate the speakers, they included set of patch cords with RCA type plugs that plugged into the speakers and jacks on the back of the radio.
A lot of times, the hinges would need contact cleaning, as the speakers would become intermittant. Most of the times, the speaker cables were missing, if the hinge connectors were always used.
