Tape kinda drys out and flakes off especially in a hot dry environment like a tube tv. The way hawkeye did it was used a solid ring of the double sided tape with no gaps, his tape is more like weather stripping. I went with the bead of silicone because I never want to remove the crt for cleaning.
Its all experimenting, trial and error and learning. There really is no wrong way unless you break the glass.
