Several years ago, I had a similar repair call. Their spoiled little brat kid wanted attention, so he shut the set off while the parents were watching a program. It was getting toward the end so the adults turned the set back on and the 3A3 shorted out because of the surge. They sat there just listening the sound, until the breaker tripped. They kept on resetting it until the end.
The horiz out really must've been red-plating and it sucked in the side of the tube and cracked it. They were lucky it didn't take out the flyback.
