Yeah the 4x4 GMT400 and all GMT800 trucks use torsion bars up front, Toyota had been using that on trucks since the 70s. I think it has more to do with Chrysler's quality in the 70s. There was a reason they almost went bankrupt in the early 80s. Also lots of Chrysler cars and trucks didn't get hydraulic lifters until the 80s.
