Sony trinitrons, with the exception of a few models that would blow a bunch of components when hor output transistor/scr would short out. KV-1920 and KV-17## models in 1977. By the early 1980's Sony had such a reliable tv with a sharp bright picture that were hard to beat in picture quality and reliability. The downside to Sony was the cathodes were quite delicate and couldn't be rejuvenated very well or at all. Picture tube had a shorter life span than set that had delta type gun structure and shadow mask. But in there heyday they were the set people wanted to buy. Yes, they were expensive. Anyway, all that to say this, if the picture quality is still pretty decent and tracks well on a black and white setting from low brightness to highlights I would say go for it. $50 is probably a stretch maybe $10- $25. That was a decent year. I think their overall quality started to slip away about 1985 or 1987.
