The only problem I really see is reaching the bottom slug through the top one. The top will either be the slot slug and block a tuning tool, or be the hex and block a blade tool. There were some plastic hex tools with a short blade detail on the end of the hex. Do you have one?

Edit: I didn't mean that it's impossible the slot slug may produce too much inductance. The best way to find out is to try it. What's most likely is that its position will be a little less into the coil. In the extreme case, this could affect the Q of the coil, but I'd guess not to worry.
