V-chip and ratings might just as well be the thing that tells impressionable young minds what to watch instead of what not to watch.
That said, I think it's interesting that the nightly network news has no rating (although they do verbally advise if there will be upsetting images). But the most egregious omission (on cable, not broadcast) is boxing. You would think that would at least get the violence nod, since it's not Hollywood-fakery but real hits and blood. But nope, just sez: No Rating. Non-sensical.
