finally got a 16" transcription turntable signal Corps MX-39A/TIQ-2
So back around 15 years ago I bought my first 16" diameter broadcast transcription discs (some Swing by Tommy Dorsey and others) and that collection has grown to around 20 such discs. I've been looking the whole time but l've never been able to find a player for a sane price till now(audiophiles seem to have the price set at over a grand for any decent specimen). I had been making do with a 70s BSR changer I had stripped to just a platter and it's arm, which I extended with a drinking straw...not ideal but I could atleast listen to the discs.
Back around Christmas I was contemplating this same model that was listed for $140 on ebay and had close to 100 shipping cost, but passed. While visiting some distant antique shops over the weekend I found the same model sans lid for $50 at an antique shop.
Motor works but has wild levels of WOW, the pickup seems like it might be ok, but output drops with WOW cycle which I need to figure out. I also got to figure out where to get the cannon connector for it or how to discretely add an interlock plug...the cord with alligator clips on the ends I'm testing it with is not a good long term solution.
Anyone know any history on these phonos?
