"The Shape of Water"
It seems worth mentioning here, that the film "The Shape of Water" (currently in theaters and nominated for Best Picture) is set in 1962 and was made with great attention to period accuracy, including street scenes, cars, buses, radios and TVs. One of the characters is observed in several scenes watching old Hollywood movies in b & w on what appears to be an RCA console (?); and there's one unfortunately brief scene of a store window with TVs and radios on display. The movie is not everyone's cuppa tea--it's a sci-fi/horror/love story, and contains some violence, gore, and nudity--but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Very original.

Anyhoo, when I read it was nominated for best picture I expected it to be some depressing drama like 1999's American Misery. I like some sci fi and as long as it doesn't cross the line into pointless splatterfest I'm game. |

We enjoyed it. The cinematography was great, the sets and costuming was great, the acting was great and it was simply fun. Michael Shannon is a natural for playing the bad guy. .. The scene where gill man "meets" the cat is hilarious, although I don't think it was intentional.
