James Arness (Matt Dillon) dead at 88!

Perhaps this is off topic, but I just heard the news on the radio! I guess all things pass eventually, but this man was truly larger than life and I never really could imagine him as anything but alive! his memory will definitely live on! RIP MAT!

P.S. Sorry folks for the lack of capitilization in the title JAMES ARNESS (MATT DILLON)! I tried to edit the title, but can't find a way to do it.......

I have to admit I didn't know he was still alive.

As for the Caps thing, I think the Software won't allow all caps in the title, it automatically changes it to lower case.

I changed it for you by editing, you can probably do the same once you've made the post but I'm not sure.

Thank you! Yes, Arness actually continued the Gunsmoke saga until relatively recently in TV movies. I am not sure when the last on was, but I want to say as recent as Y2K.

The Gunsmoke TV-movie franchise was considerably less sustained than the second life of Perry Mason, perhaps because Raymond Burr not only didn't have to be able to ride a horse but could actually get away with resembling one.

Four Gunsmoke movies were made between 1987 and 1994.

Thanks for the off-topic!
Thanks for the info from a german gunsmoke fan.
In the past I bought all gunsmoke-theme US-TV guides.
He was the serious man he played in the episodes.

You don`t find actors like him in our days.

Thanks,

TV-Collector

Heck, i didnt know the ole boy was still kicking. I watch his program to this day. But then im crazy and the ole man never let me watch modern programs as "they were rubbish" but.. they were pretty good. Well..the older ones were good.

The man passed at 88, thats a pretty good run. He lived a good life and seemed a decent fellow. We all can only hope to be that good.

Hi to everyone,

Is there anybody out there, who can send me (to Germany) the upcoming TV guide with the James Arness theme?
I am sure, that there will be some good articles.

Thanks in advance,

TV-Collector

Speaking of James Arness, how many of you out there know that Mission Impossible's Peter Graves was James Arness's brother. He also is now gone.

Don't you Popester brought him back to life recently then killed him so he could bump the thread.
