Console Radio ID

Any guesses as to what this might be? The ad only states "Antique tube radio. Date/year/make unknown. " I'm guessing 30's, but really have no idea.

About 1928-1930. Might be/might have been a battery set, and that lower door for the battery compartment?

Me too, I just want to try and figure out of it's worth taking a drive to see. I've never dabbled in anything near this old. The oldest in my collection is a '56 Fisher Custom Futura.

Sandy:

If this thing turns out to be a battery set, is there any way to get it up and running again? I know it's difficult to tell from the crappy CL pic, but the cabinetry looks to be in very nice shape. I currently have 7 consoles, all tubed, but this would be my first floor radio. I've recapped all of my consoles and they get regular use. I'd want to do the same with this. I'm not counting on high fidelity from this thing, but I have no real use for non-working pieces. It does look damn pretty though.

I agree with Reece and Sandy. I have a 1929 Sparton that has a similar looking control panel.

If it is a battery set, you can buy or build a "battery eliminator". That's really just a DC power supply tailor for the voltages and currents your radio needs.

BTW: Can I assume that there's a field-coil speaker in there? Hot chassis?

Yes, it'll be a field coil, but I doubt a hot chassis. At least every radio from that vintage I've seen had a power transformer. Higher voltage filament tubes like a 50L6 didn't come out until much later.
