Need help with Admiral record changer

I got this Admiral 5D32D radio and record changer RC624 that pick up at a estate sales. I got the radio working and everything on the record changer works accept When it gets close to the trip area it starts hanging up and skips backwards a little and when it get to the trip area it won’t trip I can get it to trip but it won’t on its own.
I got the service manual and when over it and can’t seem to find the problem
Also I got a new needle and it does it on all records.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Probably dirty at the tone arm pivot point.
Take apart, clean it real good & apply the type oil called
for IF it uses oil / grease. There is often a trip point adj, see manual.

If it's a VM based changer (most makes rebadged VMs at some point) sometimes a very small lever that rides on the large main sliding bar will have gummed up grease on it and not want to move and when the arm hits it there's enough resistance to make the arm skip backwards.

If the aged grease on it is the right flavor of gummy then when you finally get an arm trip for the change cycle it will get stuck in continuous change mode and not allow playback.

On those VMs I clean all the grease off with goof off, lighter fluid or brake clean and replace it with oil to achieve a lasting fix.

I got the skip out of it by adjusting the setscrew in the tone arm.
Everything is clean and grease free and moving freely.
Still not tripping like it should. I tried the trouble shooting from the manual that didn’t work and it also goes on to say if this does not correct improper trip action, replace gear engagement pawl and the trip motion arm assembly.
Any other suggestions if not I guess it is as good as it’s gonna get.
Thanks
