Three more consoles

Here's three more mono consoles that I recently obtained.

The first is a circa '56-'57 Magnavox AM/FM radio/phonograph combo that uses the AMP142AA chassis (4-6V6 output tubes) and a tuning eye.

The next one is a '57 Zenith radio/record player combo that uses a VM-built cobra-matic changer, along with a record compensator selector. This is a single chassis model with PP-6V6's.

Last, we have a '49 Philco AM/FM/record player combo that uses the dual tonearm record changer. One tonearm is for automatically playing a stack of 78's. The other tonearm allows manual playback of 33 1/3 rpm LP's. This one does not play 45 rpm records. The chassis does not use a power transformer; but, uses a voltage doubler power supply with a single ended output stage.

I think I'll have fun with these and they should be nice performers when restored.

The Philco used two selenium rectifiers, enclosed in a perforated metal box. It also used a 50C6G, that was a 50 volt 6Y6G. Good for about four watts.
They also used that chassis in their TV-radio phono combos.
You picked up three interesting pieces.

Thanks and I'm sure you're right about the Magnavox sounding the best, since it has the biggest amp and the most elaborate speakers. I'm sure the others will sound decent, too.

I know those big Magnavox amp's can fetch some decent money and a lot of people are destroying nice consoles for the sake of getting rich; but, I can't bring myself to do something like that unless the cabinet is trashed.

I've got the blond sister of that Philco. For 20$ that unusual changer was too interesting to pass up. Mine could change LPs as well as 78s. The original electronics are still good in mine. The LP cartridge is still good in mine, but the 78 one is dead. They are almost surprisingly light weight....Sticking my arms into the record compartments I was able to comfortably carry it down a flight of stairs, across a few hundred feet of level ground, and then up three flights.
