Slow RF Tuner
Has anyone seen this before? It appears the tuner in my TV is quite slow when started cold. It's always done this and I've joked about it a few times in some of my youtube videos, but now I'm curious.
See the effect in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWf5ytuHAtw Possibly bad caps? This TV clearly does not use tubes, but the effect is quite funny because it's very similar to tubes. Last edited by lnx64; 01-14-2013 at 01:28 AM. |

Are you referring to the flickering of the image? The AFT circuit in the set has to find something to lock onto when you turn on the game.
Does it do this with any other source signal? I dont notice a problem. By the time the CRT warms up, everything is running normally, in my eyes. |

I'm referring to the static sound, followed by a RF fuzzy picture, then the sound slowly fading in, and the picture finally clearing up.
It does it on all sources, including a VCR that may already have been on playing a tape, or live TV too. VHF or UHF. And I have thought about AFT, because I could picture the tuner taking some time to actually fine tune when warming up, but AFT was turned off. Unless that circuit is still used even if you aren't using it to fine tune. Last edited by lnx64; 01-14-2013 at 04:01 PM. |
