Sony KP-46WT520 CRT Projection TV - Standby Blinking 5 times

I have a friend who has a Sony KP-46WT520 CRT Projection TV, made about 2005. He says the other day it would turn on and the standby was flashing 5 times, and that he'd have sound but no picture.

I have done plenty of DLPs and flat-panel TVs, but I have only worked on a handful of CRT projection TVs. Any of you guys ever worked on this model? If so, any tips?

I normally wouldn't consider a CRT projector repair job, but it's for a good friend of mine. This will be a house-call repair too, heh.

I saw a generic Sony blink-code list online, I don't know if it pertains to this model. Here's what it says for 5 blinks:

"FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly."

So, any of you ol' pros have any tips?

could be weak crt's sonys were never that good and seem to go bad quicker than any other brand. it the crt's are weak you will get the 5 blink. leave it on for a good while and see if the picture does appear and look at the quality of the picture that will tell you if the crt's are tired.

From a direct view standpoint but most will aply to projos.
Be sure the HV is coming up.
If so be sure the 200V is coming up, its off FBT & feeds
3 video outs.
Check for cold joints around the vert IC. Most Sonys use
+15 & -15 to run the vert. If one is missing the sweep gets
pulled off the screen then shut down. Both also come from
the FBT.
You can also keep starting the set & see if you see a symptom
but be sure the HOT isnt getting to hot.
