A UK collectable hiding in Canada, Ether Conqueror PP3/250 valves included
Something funny happend on the way to a television set!. I was on the way to a job site in Armstrong B.C. and to a antique shop that had a old admiral tv waiting for me. Falkland is a small town with a collectable boutique shop on the hyway for some reason i decided to stop and have a look and soon was ready to leave, uninspired by some unattractive tabletop radios. before making it to the door a bug eyed lady looking like Kathy Bates from the movie Missery stopped me and insisted that i buy a radio that was hidden in the office. I really was not intrested but she was persistant and yes it is a console with a lovely cabinet. My offer of $150.00 CAD. was excepted and i was on my way. Little did i know what i drove off with and was to be educated as i reserched this dynatron product.
This working rare find remained intact amoung the oblivious This phono had no usage as it's 50 cycle synchronous motor would run faster on our 60 cycle household current Tuning MW and SW stations on this working radio was quite enjoyable Bottom of image; LF59 amplifier with PP3/250 triodes, coveted by audiofiles The money shot, These valves have fetched 200+ Pounds apiece! Image; T69A tuner/preamp Image;A fine crafted back cover completes the cabinet Rich sound and luxurious cabinetry worthy of a bold statement "The supreme Reproducer" Last edited by Red Raster; 10-07-2015 at 01:57 AM. |

That is one gorgeous console!
Is the TT a Garrard? From what I can see, it looks like one. If so, finding a proper 60Hz motor will be quite easy.

Wow, that is a truly impressive set, and how it made it all the way over to B.C. must be a tale, if it could tell it. Do you know, what is the era?

The tv was made in 1948-I would suspect this radio is from the same postwar period. Kinda like the Scott 800B on our side of the pond. |

Holy mackerel, that $6000+ amplifer. Sigh...hook it up blind A/B/C comparison with a MacIntosh and something else good and they wouldn't be able to tell the diff. But that's not the point, is it? TrophyAmp.

I have never paid more than about $125 for any radio or TV, new or used. But I would have paid $150 for this one were it to show up in my travels. It's really something special, particularly on this side of the pond.

That's a fantastic find, both for the great price and the sheer beauty. It's sad to know there are people that would gut it for parts in a heartbeat, ignoring its real value as a pristine piece of vintage tech.
I wonder who imported it, if they realized the complication with the phonograph and the line frequency, how much it cost to buy and ship originally, etc., etc. Finding something that neat and rare, in such an unexpected place, just opens up all kinds of additional questions. Anyway, congratulations on the acquisition. |
