Bad News from Terry..
Today, my uncle Karl & I went to Terry's place in Knoxville, Karl has a Grundig portable radio that has Given up the Ghost. Karl has had it about 20-25 years, he's "Partial" to it, & would love to get it back working. Unfortunately,if its the power supply/on/off switch, it could be Tango Uniform. But I have faith in Terry, he's made Silk Purses outta Sows' Ears WAY more times on MY stuff than I have a right to expect. But today, the news just WASN'T any good-I had 2 little Sonys down there, a 5-303W, the 5" TV that Sony more or less made their bones in this country with The OTHER one is that little 4" set, that was on sale about the same time. Apparently, they were BOTH real "Basket Cases", & more trouble than they were worth. Anyhow, it is a 4-203W, both of these l'il guys have pretty good cosmetics, & a plethora of parts-Methinks they BOTH have ALL their teeny-tiny knobs, which are often MIA. If any of you guys need something, let me know, pretty sure we can work something out. THIS is why we NEVER throw ANYTHING out, what may be Junque to one guy, could be a Godsend in hard to find parts for someone else.

Sorry to hear that. I've got a working 4-203W and 5-303W....Part of me says a parts set is good to have, but most of me is saying 'Tom you don't have much money to throw around, and don't need more clutter'...
Euro radios have a bad habit of having their Power/band switch assemblies crumble, and replacements being NLA unless you find a junker that some how has good switches to scrap one from.....IIRC they would get ruined by contact cleaner eating away at the insulators.

Yeah, I have a small flock of the 5" Sonys, most of which work. That is the only 4" I have, guess I'll have to find me a working example somewhere, sometime..

Wonder how much it would cost to get them to the flat end of the state here in Jackson? I have a 5-303, a parts set may be nice to have. I do not have any of the 4 inch sets.

Sandy G,
Missed you by about 20 minutes. I did see Terry and the felines. Hope we meet next go round. And the Grundig can be running again. |

I dunno anything about that, its just an old country/Southern expression. I'd ask my Granny how much she loved me, & she usually gave THAT as a reply. It doesn't really mean ANYTHING evil, dirty, or otherwise untoward.

I remember hearing that song, when I was real young. Another sickening song was: I knew you were coming, so I baked a cake! Some songs, we would make up dirty lyrics to them. |

Old electronics and having cats as pets, seem to be an unwritten rule.
