Probably the smallest portable set sold in Romania
The Soviet "Elektronika" (not to be confused with Romanian "Electronica") VL-100 was probably the smallest portable tv set sold in Romania before 1990: http://rw6ase.narod.ru/00/twcb/elektronika_wl100.html
V.L.-100 = Vladimir Lenin 100 Let (years) As I understeand from there: 1) Weight: 2,8 kilograms; 2) Dimenisions: 145 x 170 x 200 milimeters (14.5 x 17 x 20 centimeters); 3) Screen diagonal: 16 centimeters (screen size: 10 x 12.5 centimeters); 4) Sound frequncy reproduction: 250 - 5,000 Hz.; 5) Power compsuntion: from battery: 5 Watts; from mains: 10 Watts. |

A while back on ebay I seen a little crt Russian portable that was not much bigger than a pocket radio. It had a red plastic case. Circa mid to late 90's I would guess.
The part that I found most interesting is that it looked to have a regular black and white crt in it, about a 3" crt. Most sets that size had the sony watchman type screens. Edit: Here's a picture... Last edited by Tube TV; 08-29-2019 at 01:17 PM. |

Cyoot widdle buggers, BOTH of 'em ! Chances of convincing one of 'em to work here in the Land of the Free, & the Home of the Brave-Slim to NONE.. You MIGHT get a raster-Maybe. And THAT has nothin' to do about it bein' Cheap, Godless Pinko Commie Junque-I think Comecon consumer stuff was purposely set up to NOT work on Western stuff at all.. Seems like I remember reading that somewhere, sometime.. All seems so silly & ridiculous now, but it was a VERY big Deal back when...

Multi-standard VCR (I have such a beast) that supports SECAM ought to be able to drive signal to it...mine also does PAL so I plan to use it with my Italian Philips once I get to making that work....
Russian ladas and eugos made it to this continent and it sounds like most didn't instantly burst into flames and or go on some anti-christ Herbie The Love Bug killing spree... whether one would want to drive such a turkey, and how long they remained good enough for folks to dare use them is another matter.

@ Tube Tv : That 'Mara'-2/D was produced 1994: http://rw6ase.narod.ru/00/twcb/mara2.html
Since those sets are black and white, the only problem is getting 6.5 M.Hz. difference between image and sound. |

6.5MHz intercarrier sound isn't a problem
using one of these RF modulators. I have a similar one, works fine. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pro-Digit...NhmwoyZoqqkIlw You just select channel and intercarrier sound frequency. |

Man, I gotta get me one of those. What a cute little TV... and easy to get sent to North America.
Here's another version, of same, whose name translates to Contemporary. This one is a bit earlier, and made in St. Petersburg during the USSR, the Mara is a similar design but made in Minsk, Belarus. Those silver electrolytic capacitors are probably all bad, but replacing them will most likely result in a working TV - they're by far the worst part of Soviet electronics from that era. http://www.rw6ase.narod.ru/00/twcb_/rowesnik.html |

Overpriced, sure.. tempting, I agree!
The Russian version of craigslist is called avito.ru, it appears to be a reasonably common model. Last tv I had with such a small screen was a JVC, it was fun to watch |

Don't know about the REST of y'all, but there was a guy a couple/3 years back who posted a BIG lot of Comecon type Hi-Fi, over at AK, the GOOD stuff, not the cheap-shit Wally world grade "Breaks B4 the Credit card is paid off" junque.. Way I remember it, apparently a goodly portion of it went to Bossmens, doctors, big-shot Party Hacks, Hi-falutin' Rootin Tootin types who DEMANDED higher grade stuff, & at least some of it was made in gov't & military grade factories, where They KNEW What They Were Doing... If I wasn't 62, poorer than Job's Turkey, it MIGHT be fun to go over to Comecon Land, scarf up some of their Goodies, bring 'em back-And see how long it took for me to become tee-totally BANKRUPT... But what a Wild Ride I'd likely have gettin' there.. Knowin' MY luck, I'd likely be breakin' some Nit-Wit Law or another, & would end up bein' stood up against some wall & shot..

The smallest crt tv I've got is a Symphonic minni tv from late 60's. I kind of wonder how hard it would be to tweak the audio down to 4.5 mc for ntsc? Mind you, these days A/V jacks would be just as good. Telecolor 3007, The TV in your original post has such a 60s sony styled look to it. Last edited by Tube TV; 08-31-2019 at 11:24 AM. |

If the price was right I think the would have sold fine.
If it was sold for about 75 to 80 bucks back then It would have been below what most of the cheaper brands were selling for at the time And the size of it makes it cute, and cute is sucker-bait . I would have been 13 at the time, and would have been saving bottle money, lawn mowing money to get one. |
