Found a totally unremarkable TMK set
Picked this up for some reason, made in 1980, 9" screen, works and is pretty clean for 33 years old, it's kind of cool looking but otherwise blah.
I don't know why I can't leave stuff like this where it lies sometimes, it was cheap at $10 but it's basically useless. |

Looks like something AiboPet would like to get his hands on.

It is not useless. Hook up a DTV converter and you are good to go. The front has that cool Seventies styling. It is just the black cabinet that takes away from it.

Looks like my Panasonic. I got mine for free though.
Anything under $10 is a good deal though. Better to save it from the landfills ! http://www.videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=257945

I dont see anything wrong with it. I like the knob below the screen design like some of the Panasonic's, Sony's and Hitachi's had. I think you got a good buy for your $10

I actually like these little sets, I just get frustrated with buying them because I don't really have space to keep them, if I don't buy them they wind up jammed in a metal pallet, trashed all to hell, and auctioned off.
This one was clean and even has good antennas so I didn't want that to happen. It's heavy and most likely very well built, the picture isn't as good as a Sony or Panasonic but that's not really what I care about in this case, I just liked the streamlined plastic cabinet. |

TMK ( Toyomenka) sets were not common. This job is a panasonic
look alike down to the knobs, but not the back. They were well made, better than Funai or Sharp but not in the big leagues. They did run a helpful parts dept, quite refreshing back then. 73 Zeno |

Years ago, I tried and tried to fix a set like that but gave up, and now I am pretty sure it had a half-shorted yoke vertical section.

Yup...Neat little set. Not quite "quirky" enough for me, but I would not have let it sit there for $10. I would of course then have to find a place for a mediocre set that isn't either small....or quirky in any way. The TMK would be mildly interesting though. I think Toyomenka is the "actual" maker of most the little briefcase style TV/radio/cassette sets of the early 80's.
It's nice that it is complete...so would likely be an okay "kitchen TV" like I use a pristine little late 70s GE 12" B/W set for now.

^ You would probably like the Panasonic TR-005, assuming you don't already have one. I saw one on eBay recently; $0.99 starting bid, it went for $362.

first new tv I purchased was in '87 or so, was a 13" TMK color set
silver face and black back, like most of them were at that time nice looking set, but didn't last long...lots of problems frequently look on ebay for one but never seem to find that specific model would like to find one purely for nostalgia interesting that your set has the exact vhf/uhf tuning knobs my set had |

Yeah. The little Panasonic spaceship WOULD be cool (TR-005), but as you noticed, they tend to go for LOTS on the ePAY. The couple I have seen in person were in desperate need of vertical work (likely caps...easy), or the cover on front was all clouded up (impossible I think). Would be fun to have one of THOSE in the kitchen, or the round JVC "VideoSphere"...but then I would have a collectable piece in one of the most dangerous places in the house for getting spilled on or banged up. The little GE set I have there is better suited for that place.
