Motorola Franklin Park postcard

This didn't seem to fit anywhere else, so here it is:

A postcard of the Motorola Franklin Park, IL building when it was the headquarters. TV and CRT plants were out back.

I was in the reception area in that building in about 1963. The building was about 2 or 3 years old then. Very impressive.

The design has aged very well. It could pass for modern architecture.

Sadly it was knocked down to build a data center some years ago...Doug H took video of the place just before the demo and put it on youtube.

I looked it up on Google maps and it was razed either in 2016 or 2017.
That thing was unoccupied for many years and it was allowed to deteriorate to the point it was no longer feasible for restoration.
It was a very big complex.

Just like the old Infirmary here, it shut down in '98 and was razed in '05. It might still be there if this poor excuse for a city hadn't been threatened with heavy fines for leaving it there any longer.

I should've read Doug's U-tube intro for the exact data. I tried watching the U-tube presentation but for some reason I can't get the sound.

There's a lot of money in Illinois, especially Cook County.
They were talking about building luxury condominiums in the front of the building and self storage in the back.
In this day and age, it's not really feasible to repurpose an existing structure, due to the high cost of remodeling.

Ah, the home of the Blues Brothers.

There's another old hospital here whose plumbing can bring about Legionnaire's Disease, and it suffered a bad flood on the 5th floor a few years back but it's still operating for now. I'm not sure what will happen as it is gradually decommissioned but last I checked the feds didn't want to provide funds to replace it. Can't blame 'em really.

A new central library eventually went up on the Infirmary lot.
