Got to wonder if Toyota will ever make a fast car again. I saw an early 80s ad with a bunch of them lined up and laying rubber, FWD and RWD models.

back in the 70's when you had trans am and corvettes with 150 hp 400 and 350 CI engines I thought muscle was gone for good, K cars, mustang 2, go fast decal packages (they started sticking super fugly decals all over cars that were supposed to be fast) it was really depressing. Never would have guessed the HP races would come back and with such gusto.

It is an interesting turn of events....... I think part of it is the low car sales numbers.
While car sales are supposedly higher now, they are not where they once were. But high dollar luxury car sales are doing well.... If you think about it, the Challenger is quite a high tech, comfy car compared to what they were in the 70's, A engine with wheels and steering.... The car has actually made a bit of a market shift over to appeal to hot rodders who now have money and would normally be after a Lexus, or something else high priced, but fast..... In '95 my brother bought a GT 5 speed, and was easily beat by a G sedan from Infinity.... G-45 I think it was.... Challenger sales numbers = Infinity G sedan numbers..... Same market....? Just a thought....

I am still trying to wrap my head around a sub 11 quarter (with drag tires I hear, 11.2 IIRC with stock tires)
I mean back in the day I remember 13's were smoking fast from hopped up GTOs with monster tires to hookup. I just can't imagine running in the 11's |

Having some real fun with a Challenger would require a trip to the strip. I'm sure that blowing the doors off a bunch of modern imports would be terribly unsatisfying. It'd be like playing a video game in demo mode.

oh for sure, only on a drag strip I have lived long enough to acquire wisdom regarding foolishness on open streets.

I suppose I could have worded that better. What I meant is that it may be difficult to find decent competition for a Challenger. There are enough pedestrians getting hit around here by the gutless imports at normal speeds.

Better line up a few TRK's and CT-100 to sell then...Probably will cost at LEAST 60K !!

Just saw that the base price on on the Hellcat is $59,995... and then add extra for the fancier stereo or sunroof. Dodge.com will allow you to build your own and dream... or drool... which ever comes first. If you can afford spending another 15 grand for almost 300 more hp than the 392 model, you can likely afford the insurance premiums that would come with such a car!
