Philco Trans-World Portable T-9
I came across one of these http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philco_...able_t_9t.html at a local Goodwill and they were asking $79.99. It is missing the manual and there is no way to tell if it works. The case isn't in the best shape either. I am thinking that price is way too high but the manager told me they looked it up on ebay. I looked on ebay myself and have not found any that sold recently or any even listed at all.
What does everyone think I should offer them for this. I want to say $20 but I'm sure they will just laugh at me. Thanks, Jason |

I'd say let them sit on it for a while, and find out that nobody is going to pay Goodwill $79.99 for it.

Transistor set. There are lots of different transistor short wave radios from the 1960's available for less.

Too much, but when Goodwill does get somewhat nicer things in like that, they typically are priced with little research as to their actual value. If it is am only, then it is probably only worth about what the early transistor Transoceanics are, about 40 bucks. If it doesn't work, then 20 bucks.

Like magnasonic said, wait them out. I really don't think it will go at that price. Make them an offer, leave them a card. I've actually wanted one of those sets for many, many years-have never stumbled upon one. Even if it were a real nice example, though, I don't think I could go much over $20. That speaks more to me being cheap than the radio being cheap!

Rca made a Strato world tube set ( probably older than the Philco) to compete with the tubed trans oceanic's
http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/rca_stratoworld_7bx10.html FWIHR the Zeniths performed better |

Guys, just to let you know, I moved this thread to where it belongs in Transistor radios.

I got the radio tonight! I paid $20 for it. Picked up a pack of D batteries at the store and it works! Now I just need to clean it up and find an owners manual for it.
Anyone know where I can get one? |

There's a Howard Sams Photofact folder for it eBay auction # 120542504581 - beats driving to the library! It's not the original operator manual, but it's all the service info you'll ever need.
