Streamline-moderne Pennwood clock

Not radio/TV related, but I thought you guys would like to see this really cool Pennwood numechron Tymeter clock. It's called the "Moderne" and is a great example of asymmetrical streamline-moderne art deco. The most suprising thing about it is that although it was produced in the early 1940's, production continued through 1959! This one is dated 1959! What's good about these later ones is that they used a heavily swirled catalin-like main body and colorful numerals unlike the early versions. The case is all tentite and they tend to warp to some degree. This one had a little twisting to the base, but displays very nicely. It's pure eye-candy for sure.

It could be TV related! Pennwood Numechron made a similar one that looked like a table model TV. The case color wasn't as impressive.
IIRC, Allied Radio used to sell them.

Reminds me of the clock my OM got in the 60's. Twas a John
Glenn man in orbit with a Merc capsule on it. Looks like
the same mechanism IIRC. Clocks of this type were rare & space
age at the time. The cats ass. Miss that clock.....

Appropriate for use on the Enterprise then. Looks as if her chronometers used the same movement as the clock you linked to. Cooler than the usual flip-number clocks in my opinion.

Screencap from S01E19 Tomorrow Is Yesterday.

For sure the case was not as impressive, but they made a nice TV clock and dim backlight, for viewing in a darkened room.

I never saw one in the flesh. The illustration was always in B/W and rather small.

IIRC, the firm that built it was in Chicago.

A friend had one of these...I asked him about it and he said it decided to turn itself into a fireplace one day!

There are usually a fair number of the more common "TV style" clocks on the 'bay...They make a bit of noise when the digits flip, but are decent, accurate clocks.
