Throwback Duracell batteries?
Picked these up at the WalMarts today because I was intrigued by the lack of the Duralock moniker. Has Duracell given up on that whole Duralock fiasco? These were manufactured in March, but I also saw some of the red Duralock Quantum batteries that had also been made in March. I wonder if the Quantum batteries are the "high end" batteries, and these are the standard run of the mill ones.

Won't leak for 10 years in storage, or 3 months in use.
There are a lot of counterfeit Duracells around, this site has some information on how to tell them from the real thing. https://thecounterfeitreport.com/pro...Batteries.html I'm sure Wal-Mart would never buy counterfeit crap from China but even they can get taken </sarcasm> |

P&G sold off Duracell last year to Berkshire Hathaway, perhaps the new owner just cleaned the packaging up?

If you want real throw back duracell I have one labeled IIRC "Duracell-Mallory" that I pulled out of some 60's or 70's gear at a thrift...It has yet to leak.
The modern stuff leaks like a sieve as do most brands....Can't begin to say how annoying it is to pick up the remote and have the remote working fine as it's battery compartment begins to pee into my hand...

I refuse to use Duracells in anything I own. I've lost cameras, a police scanner, calculators, remotes to leaky Duracells. Their claim to repair or replace items damaged by leaks is a mean, rotten bait and switch tactic. Who keeps the original blister packs with date codes? Who keeps faded receipts that can't be read? To Hell with Duracell!®

https://youtu.be/YeVbX5PE9C4 Here's an old video I put up of leaky Duracells. I've stopped using Energizers though. I got a pack assuming they were made in USA, but when I looked, they were actually from Thailand. Duracell or Rayovac for me.

I recently pulled a pair of AA Duracells from a remote, the expiration date was 2007 and they were still working with no leaks. They were probably made in the late 90's.

My problem is with their rechargeable's when the wrapping at the end cap on the positive terminal comes off and expose the can the minus side.I had a couple that almost catch on fire in the device as I was installing them when the pos and the can shorted against the pos lead in the device. Crappy design. |

I guess Duracell and Kirby are now cousins. Berkshire Hathway also owns Kirby.

I use Energizer lithium double/triple A batteries whenever I can. Yeah they're costly but they last for ages and have never given me problems.

Ni-MH rechargeables here, but Duracells for the mouse.
I still use Sanyo NiCd AA batteries I got in the early 2000s - just used two in a Norelco razor. Higher mA-hr than the original ones made in France. I've also used the Sanyos in an old Kodak 1.2 Megapixel camera, but 30 shots and they are dead..

I will only buy Panasonic brand batteries. They last longer and in 10 years have not leaked once!

I have an old Kodak digital camera from that era that ate batteries in a matter of days, even if it was just sitting on the shelf. I had to train myself to never leave the batteries in it if I wasn't going to use it for awhile. But then that would constantly require re-setting the correct time/date. What a hassle it was. |
