Television, a dumb idea

Skip to about 17:20 in the following video:

I knew this had been mentioned in the series but I didn't know where until now.

I have been watching quite a few episodes as of late. I watched this show all the time when it first aired but do not remember this episode. The series' time period can't be pinpointed, seems to be set around the late 30s partly due to a mention of The Great War ending "20 years ago" and a taxi in the Christmas episode that looks very much like a 1939 Ford. However, this pushes time back even further.

Incidentally I entered a contest to win a Commodore Amiga because of this show. The idea was to watch for a letter to appear each day and unscramble them to form a character's name (the answer was the title character of this episode). No computer but I eventually received a comic book.
