Another one referbed!

My good friend and former workmate Denny is going to have an early Christmas present. His Zenith 6S152 sits unused for many years. The chassis for the 8S154 is a perfect fit so... I purchased two old chassis to have melded into one good unit. Walter is the man to go to when having quality electronic work done: he's redone two of mine (one of which I'm using). Good friends are worth the effort and are in short supply. Next I need to do something for Walter.

Old wooden radios is the bomb! Everyone should have one!

I spend more time at home fixing (and re-capping) Philco sets for others.
But I managed to restore a Zenith 5R135 tombstone for daily use at work , at my desk over a few lunch-hours

How did you handle the speaker issue?

The 6S152 and 8S154 speakers are compatible.

I unerstood they were compatible but a slightly different size, 10" vs 12".
Same field coil resistance and same output transformer.

The aforementioned radio returns, completed, to it's master Sunday. The only flaw is the bezel partially obscuring the "bulls-eye" tuning aid. Yippee!!!

My friend's radio started to develop an annoyance. Turning on the radio is normal for a valve set except... Radio powers on with half value for approximately 15 minutes when the volume comes to normal levels. Turning the volume knob makes no difference until the set is thoroughly warmed up. The 6F6 was subbed making no difference. What's wrong?

I agree. I have two, both Zeniths--C-845 (pictured in my avatar) and K-731. They both work very well for their ages, 57 and 54 years old, respectively, and sound great, not to mention pulling in lots of stations in this area, which is about 35-40 miles from the nearest FM stations. The C-845 has a two-way speaker system; the K-731, just one real speaker. The high-frequency one is an electrostatic tweeter, driven directly from the plate of the 35C5 audio output tube.
