1998 Philips Magnavox TP2781 C101 video problem

Chassis 27D700-7570 (mom's tv) , she just passes away last Saturday. God bless her. Anyway, i won't part with this set even though i usually don't bother with the later models. Screen is really washed out and blurry on startup. After its been on about a minute, it gets better but not a whole lot. Also, convergance seems off and there is yellowing here and there. Could this be caps or do i need to get into service mode?

Better let the experts chime in but sounds to me like a worn out picture tube.

sounds like CRT. Try this.
In totally dark room turn down( off) color level.
Turn down brite & contrast most the way but still has pix.
Is it a good B&W pix or a color?

Now turn up the brite & contrast does the pix get worse ?
Does the color of the pix change ? Focus go bad ?
Are streaks shooting to the right of brite areas ?

Bottom line is a set with a weak jug can look normal when you
dont drive it hard. If you put up some screen shots may be able to
tell for sure. In person 99.9% I can make the call fast.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Lost mine last fall & it sure
changes things. But she was 97 and happy with the time she had
& ready for the next step. Now we talk of her & smile remembering her
& all she did for us.

Should be easy enough to find another for a tube swap.

Should be. I got a few pics including black and white with brightness down. Convergance may fix since there is red and blue off the edges of lettering even in black and white. Pics arnt the greatest but hopefully this helps.

Nah. I don't know what else to suggest, and zeno sometimes misses followup posts, he'll be along soon enough.

OK here I am.
You got all the colors & good B&W.
The convergence is off a little but let that wait.
If you just cant wait be SURE to draw a sharp line across the
magnet stack before moving anything !! That way you can put things
back where they started. You may also find rubber yoke wedges on the chassis that fell out but they affect the edges not the center.

Try turning things up again til the pix starts going bad and take
a few more shots both B&W & color. If I miss you get my attn with
a PM.

Turn things up as I said & take a few more pixs. Then maybe I can
tell whats going on. Probably nothing in menu will help.

I haven't forgot about this set. Just haven't got around to pics yet. may try today later on. i haven't had the back off but i peeked through the vents with a flashlight and it looks like all the rubber spacers for the yoke are in place.
