Very nice everyone!!!!

I went to the FIRST estate sale I had ever been to last week

I got a VHS head cleaning tape and a record - (A K-TEL (Power Play)) -- The quality of it was HORRIBLE so i got rid of it...... (I figured it would be...ALL K-TEL RECORDS WITH A # ON THEM ARE PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS (Low volume, bad quality, etc)

They really went downhill when they started having OTHER PRESSING PLANTS make thier records and its sad!! (The # is the plant that pressed it)

The original K-TEL records HAD NO # .. They are were done by K-TEL and were excellent!!

There is a really good write up on K-Tel on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-tel
I believe their old original stuff will be quite the collectors items in the future......

Actually, now that I re read the wilipedia story, It is not the one I read that was really
good and very detailed. There is one out there that explains how they tightened
the spacing on the groves of the record to squeeze more songs on them, and some
other tricks they were into.... I guess If someone knows about it please post it, or
I'll eventually find it again.....

I wonder if they found ways to cheap out on their 8-track releases as well.

Hmmmm do thier 8 tracks sound bad also???

Hmmmmmmm I havent ever seen one..... Is there a # on them as well??

I have a set called THE HOT ONES (1978) 2 record set

www.ebay.com/itm/221507760787

The first record DOES NOT HAVE A # ON IT (Found it @ salvation army) -- I finally found the 2nd record WHICH IS A NEWER RELEASE WITH A # ON IT....

Sounds horrible compared to my original w/no #!! (9 songs on each record) I got rid of it straight away!!

I WOULD LOVE FINDING THE ORIGINAL 2ND RECORD!! -- I love this set!!

Never noticed a number, and I haven't had a K-Tel 8-track in a long time. Many later 8-track releases used cheap materials; countless times I have opened them for splice repairs/pad replacements only for the locking tabs to snap like twigs. It's almost impossible not to break them in certain types of carts.

Nixies are über cool for sure, but I'm always concerned about filament burnout.

One could always reduce filament voltage. Filaments last longer at voltages below the designed rating. I purposefully run the filaments at a reduced voltage in my home made tube amp to try and maximize tube life

Nixies are cold cathode devices - i.e. no filament to worry about

August 2nd 2014 finds
So i went into this weekend thinking there wasnt gonna be many sales out, since it is long weekend here in Canada (civic holiday)
I did manage to score a few things though (1 massive boombox) score.

1. Vinyl records - paid $2 each, (sealed Europe KP)
2. SONY c-90 cassettes - $0.25 cents each
3. Vintage tins and weedwacker twine - $3.00
4. JVC M-70 Boombox Ghettoblaster - $15.00 (worth $400-$500)
Cassette and radio work perfect. Few nics and scratches but nothing major.

Went to an old furniture store today . Closed down after 60 years. I like picking through junk. The guy gave me this 1979 plate for free because I was born in march 1979. Also got a 1992 consumers distributing catalog for free, worth $50 minimum. Im going to return next week because its too jammed in the back. Hes got all kinds of vintage automotive stuff!!

Went to as estate sale today... prices were very high (near retail) on most things ! I did manage to find a couple toy cars for 25 cents each - Corgi Oldsmobile Toronado, 1974 Matchbox Laing Crane.
Also picked up a box of free records, nothing special though.

Although I'm not a record collector, I'm keeping my Dual around just in case I need it. It just needs a more thorough cleaning and some new lube, and I have to figure out why the motor won't turn off. The strobe light works sporadically... well, nothing major is wrong with it anyway.

SAT AUGUST 9TH 2014

Went back to the Friday estate sale (10 minutes before they closed) and bought this 1985 Sony CDP-302 cd player Like new inbox, with remote and manual. It's as good as it gets without being brand new ! Doest look like it was used much ! I paid $25.00 for it. (worth $80.00+)

I also found this SHURE V15 III cartridge in box for $10.00 (worth $400)
