Rca ctc179cm

Looking for someone who has the parameters and setting fo the Green Bias and Drives settings for this chasis Thanks in advance! I had to put a new FBT in it. It had a no start problem now I need to set some of the bias settings. It does not have AKB . I got rid of all my factory service info and the pinned settings that are listed on repairworld site seem wrong. Thaanks for the help yes those tuner wrap problems are bad.

Likely you will need a chipper check. Last time I worked on one--I had to use it.

Also--doesn't this chassis use AKB? If so there really are NOT "grey scale adjustments".

I thought only certain Sony sets use auto kine bias. Live and learn. Still probably the only make whose AKB causes the pic to flash on and off when it can't balance the guns.

I am SURE some RCA sets did, as far back as the CTC131/132. The 169 did NOT do so, nor any others between the 131 and the 179 or so, such as the 180 series. I KNOW the CTC 195/197 DOES use AKB. Not sure if the "HD" chassis of the CTC 170/172 did or not--they are rare anyway. (but i DO have a complete, somewhat working LB from a ctc-170 wiht the 9" tubes I saved..) Not sure about the 179/189/188, but as you know it is a complex, troublesome chassis to work on...do NOT forget about the tuner wrap problem--this chassis DOES have that problem--in SPADES.

I have most RCA training manuals but not this one.
Was this the chassis used in the big CRT sets ? If
so only saw 2 & both had bad FBT's.
CTC175 gives a range of 0-127 for bias
0-63 for drive
Try putting them in the middle & touch up by eye from there.
I think RCA was first with AKB, I remember the seminar a LONG time ago.
Next was Emerson of all people ! Then others but not all followed.

We had a Fony from about '93, pic was flashing, staying off for longer and longer periods until it became unwatchable. That was our 2nd to last new TV (not counting the crappy Sanyo I bought for myself when my '89 Magnasonic took a crap), last new one was the 14" aught 5 Toshiba that sits in mom's closet. I upgraded her to the 20" version of the same set.

Did you ever get this set fixed?

It most DEFINITELY has AKB !! I found my technical manual on the 179/189 chassis the other night. It reminded me of this post, so I took a look. Not only is the chassis AKB--but there is a relatively complicated setup procedure for it. You have to set the screen control to zero ans then adjust the red drive setting, IIRC-to get the system "ready".
