Panasonic B&W small tv problems

Here is a Panasonic I am not sure where to start on. When powering up the snow does not fill all the screen, and the whole picture is jittery. When I hooked up a Nintendo Entertainment System the screen formed lines but would not show a proper picture, just bars across the screen.

I know from past experience that a screen that does not fill up means bad caps, but I am not sure how to deal with the other issues.

This tv came from the local recycling center. Every other day I go and grab up any vintage TV I see. Here in rural Tennessee there are plenty of these little tvs but the issue is at this center they sit out in the weather. Maybe this caused some sort of damage? I have dumped water out of TV's and then used them, so maybe not.

The water could have damaged the interior of some components if, as you say, tvs spend their time outside in extreme temperatures like rain or sun .. if the TV has spent weeks or months to such temperatures, yes it may have caused some damage on circuit components

Best bet with wet sets is dry them off fast. Open them up
& use a hair drier.
For the set in question a pic is worth a thousand words.

The hairdryer method is what I use along with a fan. Ive gotten way too used to having to dry out all sorts of electronics. Everything from TVs to macbooks.

Hopefully my pictures attached. I haven’t had much time to Mess with this set since I’ve been trying, and failing, to get some 50s tube sets going.

horz hold is off. IIRC its a coil so you may have to go beyond
a stop. Turn direction of less lines til the pic pops in

Thank you! I will have to clear a spot and try to adjust this some more. Did the hold fail because caps have drifted to other values possibly?

Could be drift or if any little kids were around they may be to blame.
Even adults would mess them up. We used to get tons of them in
back in the good times. Since we ran up to 3 weeks behind if I
thought that was it I would quickly adj it & send it home. Very few
came back. All done for free.

Thanks! I just took this tv back apart and took it into the shop. I did exactly what you said (plus adjusted the vertical height) and it actually looks like it is now working with a Bar and Dot generator. It still needs a different input tested with it and it really needs the controls cleaned, but after that it will hopefully make a nice little tv.

The only thing i don't like is how this tv does not have a focus control. That may or may not be an issue, but that will be determined later.

Few newer B&W TV's had a focus control. Sometimes there is
a jumper of sorts to give a few different voltages to the F grid.
But I have never seen one that makes a difference !
