Picked up this radio at the local antique mall. Have not been able to find much information on it. Could anybody tell me what year it was made? Was this radio a good performer?

According to my radio "Collectors Guide", it was made in 1940. It looks like a nice radio, should have good performance. Is that a tuning eye tube tube I see behind the dial? Are those blocks of wood above and below the speaker original? They look strangely out of place...

Those blocks of wood appear to be the real deal. That is a 6U5 eye tube in the face of the dial. I am in the process of the electronic restoration. It appears to not be messed with.
