Hi to all,
Hi HelloVoltage,

Well Thanks! for informing the forum & Congratulations! on acquiring a rare Indextron family item.
What's the condition ?
Planning on getting it to work?

I've never seen a XAV-55N, does it look like the XKV-55 standalone TV or is it a display unit designed to be used with a car system (diversity TV receiver, FM radio, CD player & multi-channel audio amp)? (see photo)

Schematics are going to be hard to find, never seen a service manual this side of Japan.

Best Regards
jhalphen

Condition externally is very good. Actually , since it was pulled from a mid 90s nissan, I would consider it excellent. No reaction wear in the buttons.

Internals are yet to be determined. I am currently repairing a kv-4sv1 that was at the point of transistors being corroded off.The xav is next in line. I have a few of the indextrons

the xav-55n Is designed to be used with the diversity unit, which I don't have. I figured it is not necessary for my use. Can purchase one later if needed.

Schematics are helpful but I expect the xav to function fine when powered. Schematics for the watch cubes are not as helpful as they likely once were. The corrosion removes logical troublesooting. Just slowly clean and replace. The plastic structural supports always snap...

Hi to all,
Hi HelloVoltage,

Thanks! for the HD photo of your XKV-55N.
Hope you will get it working in 2022.

With luck, this model avoided the horrid leaky purple Cap issue which plagued the Cube Indextrons & corroded fine PCB tracks. Different model, different time.
Never seen a Service Manual, but probably some common highly specialized ICs which Sony developped for Indextron signal processing.

Best Regards & Best Wishes for the New Year,

waiting for parts shipment, decided to assess the xav. Powers on, no control response. Definitely a couple of obivious cap corrosion point, but nothing like the watchcube.
not going further until i increase cap-acity.

Hi to all,
Hi HelloVoltage,

Nice photo of the XKV-55N insides.
Also test & beware of small Tantalum capacitors, they tend to fail shorted.
Usually used as decoupling Caps on DC power rails.
I see a small light-blue one with a black dot at the forefront of the top PCB.
Probably more elsewhere.

Best Regards

Thank you for posting this HelloVoltage. Can you look toward the front sides of the CRT where the photo cells are located and tell us what the labels say? Is it EM-7?

Is the CRT 5.25 inches diagonal? Thanks

I see no demarkation of "EM-7" on any label. And the dimension diagonally is 4.25"
I also acquired an XAV-U50 which obviously was updated/repaired. Internally almost identical to the XAV-55N.

Thank you for that information. Until now, I had assumed the CRT used was 5.25 inch because of the 5.25 inch used in their index projector, also the “5” model designation. Does it use one or two photo cells?

This , specifically from a disassembled xav-u50, has 2 photocells, masked as D901,D902 on Assembley board "N".
The other relavent masking on the board reads :
1-642-164-11

The reverse of that board other components with a soldered shield, which I have not removed. So no other information can be provided about now.

This xav-u50 definitely has caps swapped out, and they are in most of the places I have visually identified leakage on the xav-55n. I will provide photos as possible, and list the masking id's of the obviously replaced caps.

So far , the only difference between the 2 is the replaced caps, an extra power harness for the xav-55n, to facilitate use without diversity unit (I assume). There is also a small board on the bottom side of assembly board "B" on the XAV-U50, which I suspect was a service update. It is secured only with double sided tape, and manually soldered in.

If you want to help people document everything. Rare stuff like this odds are nobody else is working on now, but someone will find one x months from now and then have tons of questions.

small update of progress. Was able to get a broken diversity unit. Repaired it and found a cable with similar connectors that didn't take too much effort to modify. the tv functions came to life. Not able to get the composite video-in signal to stablize (or colorize) yet. But almost there.

1-15-2023, after checking packages, I now have 6 XAV-u50 indextron, 1 xav-55n indextron, and 1 xav-u51 indextron. 6 diversty units (also labeled xav-u50 ¿?). 2 original cables, 1 non original made to work.

if you mean watchcubes, have 9 working for a wall (3x3 array) project, can also possibly repair for you. If one of yours is white, would trade straight for a working black or working blue.
