Gonset Sidewinder

My newest project: A Gonset Sidewinder rig from approx. 1964. This is a 6 meter SSB/AM rig. Transistorized receiver, and a hybrid transmitter (3 tubes).

With only 10 watts PEP on sideband, and 3 watts on AM, it's easy to see why Gonset sold a lot of linear amps with these rigs. For AM, it's not plate modulated, so I'll just use it for sideband only. Of course, sporadic E season is just around the corner, and 10 watts is all you need when 6 is really hopping.

Replaced a few leaky low voltage electrolytics, repaired a cold solder joint, and cleaned the controls, so it's working but needs alignment.

I don't think they made too many of them, they came out about the time Altec-Lansing sold Gonset to a company in North Carolina.

Faust Gonsett formed a new company, Side Band Engineers, after the original Gonset company sold. They produced several models loosely based on the Sidewinder for amateur and citizens band use.
