Quasar console from 1987.
Thrift store has it. Plugged it in once, decent picture, and really great sound. Stereo, AV. LED display instead of OSD, bit odd for as late as it is (or so I thought).
The also have a 1994 RCA stereo monitor console TV, and two Magnavox sets, also with stereo AV, one slightly newer than the other. Mainly I'm eyeing the Quasar. (They also had a nice Quasar stereo VCR that I suspect came from the same household. It had a glass fold up door and made beepy noises when you pushed the buttons, but someone already got it. Why? ) Is the Quasar worth grabbing, or do I let it rot there? Last edited by Rod Beauvex; 10-25-2014 at 09:28 PM. |

I'd leave it. Quasar TV's of that era are known for bad flyback transformers and weak CRT's. If this CRT is still strong, that probably means it's a low hours set.

Rod, I had a Quasar a tad newer than that one. Mine had OSD, but the picture tube went bad pretty quick. I would have to say tho,, it had the best sound of ANY TV I've owned. Mine had Dolby DBX. The RCA would be a Thomson era set, and the Magnavox's probably out of Greenville, TN. Hell.. if the picture tube is good... get it.

If it has the dome sound system and a good CRT, I'd snatch it up. While Panasonic (the maker of Quasar in those days) had some CRT issues, they also had one of the best audio set-ups around in their top-of-the-line models.
