At The Local Thrift

So I saw this at the local Thrift.. I already have two of these and it's missing all the paperwork, setup charts, and manuals.. It doesn't surprise me that this pops up there, they are known to put vintage stuff out every blue moon.. I see film projectors there quit alot, some times old portable turntables.. I think I've seen a BK tube checker a long time ago, which was the bigger higher end models and I kick myself in the ass for never getting it.. This place tends to do eBay searches before they put stuff out, they also had a cap checker at one time with a analyzer, and they wanted the same price someone was selling on eBay that was restored and working condition while the ones they had were questionable.. Needless to say, the place is a rip off on certain things, and these non English speaking Guatemalans that work there aren't good at anything..

Hey, the foam is good on it! The foam in my CR70 is falling apart. Assuming one wants one of these, that isn't really a bad deal. I paid $100 for mine complete with manuals and falling apart foam.

Its normal for the foam to dis-integrate. Its a very long molecule and those are inherently unstable. That was the downfall of the 8-track tapes.

You can make your own replacement pad with a 8 tracks.. Some of those 8 tracks are very hard to get open without breaking off the tabs.. When I was younger I use to open them up alot and sometimes would have to tape the 8 track back up...

Yeah they can be made, but I'd say you're better off getting them from Kate's Track Shack. I've used them, they're great.

By the way, better to get tapes with rotted foam than a melted pinch roller, which fortunately doesn't happen nearly as often.
