TV sets used in the Space Invaders Championships

Anyone know what brand and model was used for this competition?

Not me. Looks like wood-grain vinyl-clad metal cabinet 19 inch sets like everyone was making.

Thanks for the pic!

These look like simulated woodgrain plastic sets. Just curious what brand and model. Old metal cabinets were made before this. Old sets like the Zenith Chromacolor II.

Back cover has that sort of "GE look" to me. Maybe an EC chassis set?

That's funny, I was thinking GE and Sanyo.

GE's of that era should have the little box with the schematic on the back side and I don't see any on these sets.
They do look a little like the Sanyo;s that Sears sold back then.

Wat year was this? I imagine the sets were new at the time, they could be some type of Monitor too.

Apparently 1980.

Here's a bigger copy of the picture, it doesn't help much though.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the only angle taken. Doing a search gives you several of these pics and there's a bit of history on it including the fact that the winner was a guy but is now a girl (becky burger)? Held by Atari in 1980 with over 10,000 participants.

I'd say the only hope is to get as clear of an image as you can of those manufacturing stickers on the back and cross reference with sets from that era.

Or ask someone who was there if they remember the name badges on the TV.

That's what I was thinking. Apparently she's on twitter but I don't use those sites.

Ok, emailed her via her website. Let's see if she remembers. Turns out, she's a game designer. Bards Tale III for example.

There are some more pictures accompanying an article about the event in the March 1981 issue of Creative Computing magazine. The PDF at archive.org shows pics with the TVs but is too low-res to do anything with. I am downloading the 2.1 GB comic book archive now to see if it includes decent images.
