I am extremely excited to find this one!

I saw an ad for this radio that said it was located in the same town I live in. I have been looking for a big stand up radio like this and it was listed at $40. I called the guy to schedule a time to go look at it and it turns out he works in the same building I live in right below my apartment in a real estate office. Its at his house which is right down the street.

Its almost like this radio found me and I can't wait to go pick it up tomorrow and bring it home. I will post plenty of detailed picks but I think I am just going to clean it up and wait til spring before I start working on it. I still have my Emerson 422 tabletop to keep me busy until then.

Nice find! Looks like it's all there. I was always attracted to silvertone radio's.

Just got it in the house and its in rougher shape then I thought. It needs some work but will be a good project. Its a model #7067 and seems to be complete. I like how its got push button tuning and there are custom labels on the buttons for the local Pittsburgh stations. I can't wait until its restored and working!

Cool radio! I like that slide out phonograph. Looks like there's some nice veneer on that cabinet too.

Thanks! The phonograph actually tilts out, the whole framed section around the speaker cloth tilts out. The veneer is nice but it is in bad shape. I was actually going to ask whether I should refinish it. There are a lot of gouges and scratches and I actually saw one for sale online that was partially stripped. It looks like I could sand it and refinish it pretty easily. I like the petina on it but I don't think I could clean it up enough.

So I found a completely restored on online as well. Considering I can't do any cabinet work to this until the spring thaw, I am only teasing myself with these photos. Of course, that veneer looks even more amazing on this one. Its a little light for me but I can't wait to tear into mine.

I am currently taking apart the inside so I can start working on the chassis on the workbench.

The first pictures of your radio at the top of this thread don't look all that bad. When it comes time to work on the cabinet, before resorting to stipping it, first try cleaning it well with waterless hand cleaner. You might be surprised how it looks. I prefer Goop orange, but whatever brand you use, get the type WITHOUT pumice. Might only need a little touch up of stain on the abraded parts. But, of course, we can't see the top where damage often occurs, etc.

I have seen threads where people talk about the orange cleaner but there are a lot of gouges and scratches in the veneer that you can't really see in the pics. I have some more detailed pics that I haven't got around to uploading that show the extent of the damage. The more I look at my radio, the more I want to keep the original finish but I know it will never look good that way. I don't want to strip it but I have already accepted the fact that it has to happen.

I'm another Silvertone fan, and have a bunch of them. Easy to work on, well-built radios. I found one very similiar to yours, but without the phono option, in the attic of a TV shop that I cleaned out. I put it in a local charity auction and an employee of mine ended up buying it. I guess someday I'll get enlisted to get her going again.
