The simple things

Shortly after having my CT-100 restored, I had what I thought were tuner problems. At the very least reception problems. The set is connected to my local cable system. There was noise on all channels (2-13) and complete signal break up on some. I changed out the coax to no avail. I then changed out all the tuner section tubes with nos. Still no fix. I finaly sprayed the parts of the tuner I could reach with contact cleaner. No improvement. I flirted with turning the slugs on the tuner but thought this was a bad idea. Today I pulled the chassis and pried the removable cover off revealing the tuning drum. I took some fine steel wool and cleaned the brass contacts (6 on each channel strip). Then re-sprayed with contact cleaner. After reassembly and powering up, the picture never looked better, the color is more vivid And SNOW FREE on all channels.
