Question McMurdo Silver Masterpiece II How amny are out there?

Does anyone know how many of these were manufactured?

I have a beautiful example in what I believe is known as a Raleigh cabinet and although there is some limited info on the net, there doesn't appear to be much.

I have an article from a store that had one for sale many years ago and part of the come-on was that there were only 8-10 kown to exist in the cabinet although that may be nothing more than hype.

Even have the original manual but other than the fact that it was built in 1933time frame, I know little else.

Any further info is appreciated.

Barry

Uhh, I'll give ya 10 bux fer it...THAT is a masterpiece. IIRC, McMurdo Silver died at a very young age in the '30s, & his company didn't last much longer....OK, I'll go 15, but you'll hafta split shippin' w/me...

You might try the forums at antiqueradios.com - somebody there may be familiar with the S-M history.

Damn generous offer Sandy!

I'll take it under consideration although I don't want the mods to get upset that this could be a ploy to sell. The funniset part was I almost passed on it as I didn't want any consoles when I purchased that large collection but the seller MADE me take it! I left him quite a few because I was an idiot but he told me I didn't want to pass on this piece.

I still have it wrapped up and put away but she is a beauty with beautiful chrome and cabinet that I will plan on keeping for some time.

Here is a picture of the Raleigh Cabinet. I have the internal parts stored away in separate boxes as it has been moved and I have not set it back up yet.

BTW,

Chrome is near mint and everything was fully operational when packed. I need to break it back out as it is truly a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

Very Very nice. Don't know the numbers but I'm sure it wasn't many. In about 15 years I've yet to run across a micmurdo silver in person and i've seen some pretty rare stuff and the only ones i've seen pictures of are the later ones with big dials.

What the heck did you leave behind!!!!

Man!!! what a haul!! many many very nice sets in there.

Not pointing this out to make you feel bad... but the "Floor Model Philco 37-116 1937" would have been another one I would have made sure was on the truck. Not nearly as nice as the McMurdo but a very nice set in its own right.

I wouldn't have left the Stromberg either, and the RCA 813 is not to be sneezed at... but an EH Scott 510.... THAT would stay! I'd hold out for a REAL example of EH Scott!

At the time I purchased them, I didn't have a clue about most of the radios as my intention was to purchase his Audio equipment. I did get a EH Scott Allwave 15 without the cabinet that is very nice although the speaker needs to be reconed.

I got a very quick education and have come to appreciate the beauty and operational benefits of these radios and speakers. While I have sold many and was quite surprised as to the value, I have also kept quite a bit for my own enjoyment.

Did I miss some opportunities? Sure, but also gained so much enjoyment that I can't worry about the ones that got way!
