I realize it might cause extra server load/memory usage tracking extra active sessions if it were set way too high but I can't imagine with the this site's apparent load that it would be a problem if it were something like 30 minutes to an hour or even more, although even 15 minutes would be an improvement if it's necessary to keep it relatively low for some reason. "Thanks, Admins!" for all your efforts that make the site run smoothly! Keep up the great work! |

VK Forums Access Woes
Hi Kamakiri,
Thanks! for the reply. The XP machine is a NetBook PC running FireFox 32.0 and works well. This is the one i am using to communicate with right now. The old machine is WIN 98-SE running FireFox V2.00.20 and won't connect. IE is V5.5 and won't connect either. Being limited to FireFox versions compatible with WIN98SE, i can't upgrade the browser. By won't connect i mean this: if you're already displaying a web site and call up VK via a Favorites link, the page will never load. The Favorites are not corrupted, none of the VK forums nor the main site page can be loaded. The same thing happened 6 months ago, then was resolved, probably because someone else also had connection problems. Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

I 99% of the time have ACTIVE SCRIPTING disabled which helps quite a bit (Its safer and stuff loads much faster) Im glad to see more 98se users..... 98 is an amazing OS!! What happens on Firefox 2.0??? (It should work as Firefox 0.8 works fine (I have tried 0.8 so I know (I dont like it as much as MyIE2 though (IE wrapper)))) Last edited by Dude111; 09-19-2014 at 05:28 PM. |

Hi to All,
First of all, many Thanks! for all your advice & wisdom. VK with WIN 98SE + Firefox 2.00.20 works again as of today. I did nothing, therefore a mystery! like last time. Advice needed: I am going to convert the old gal' to XP. Having good USB support + over 120Gb drives is the incentive. I've purchased some new legit genuine Microsoft software. One was already installed, the other 2 are new, never used. Question: as XP is no longer supported, will i be able to get a definitive post-installation product key when the machine connects to MS for registration? You may ask, why XP rather than WIN 7 or 8.1? Simple: i use a very old version of ACT! which won't run on either of the above. It runs on XP. I've been told about running a "Virtual XP machine" inside WIN 7 or 8, but i'm not familiar and ...scared. Sounds complicated. Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |
