I Agree.Its standard on most VCRs.Sometimes you get some tabs that are pushed in alittlebit but not broken off.I just put a piece of tape or one of the labels that came with the blank tape.Without that feature I could not imagine how many priceless home movies were ruined by accidentally recording over with soap operas and sports programming.

I had a top loader that would just blink the REC light.
