STK392-560s for Sony projection set?

Hi all,

I have a Sony KP-43HT20 projection set, vintage 2003, that I'd like to get going and give to a friend. It needs two new convergence output chips, STK392-560. When I had to replace the convergence outputs on my Panasonic I went to Acme Electronics, who stocks original Sanyo STK's. The replacements worked great and are still going strong. However, Acme does not stock the STK392-560. Both MCM and MAT have generic replacements, but I do not want to get garbage chips that will blow up within a year.

Encompass has a non-Sanyo replacement chip for a bit more. Are they a more reliable source?

Any alternate source or cross-reference for these chips? I'd like to stick with genuine Sanyo if at all possible.

Thanks!

Is tvrepairkits trustworthy? They claim to have genuine Sanyo chips. Kit is $72 (chips, resistors, fuses, instructions, etc).

Encompass is the old Tri-tronics. I dealt with them for years, and they are reputable and an authorized distributor for most brands. I'd personally go with MAT first (ask for Michelle), or Encompass - both are honest companies.

Disclaimer - I do not work for either of the companies listed above, only a satisfied customer. MAT Electronics will send you a paper catalog, even beyond the grave. </disclaimer>

Cheers,

Thanks for the input. I have ordered from Encompass, MAT and MCM in the past and had no issues; my concern is that none of them even claim to have the original Sanyo part, so I'm expecting a generic Chinese equivalent.

I found that tvrepairkits.com will sell the STK392-570 alone for $25/chip which is more in line with what I paid at Acme for the genuine Sanyo STKs for my Panasonic a couple of years ago, vs. $10-16 for the "knockoff" chips. The -570 should be an acceptable replacement for the -560. They claim to have over 900 chips in stock.

I saw a few good reviews of tvrepairkits on a site called SiteJabber and one bad review on Yelp. Anyone here actually ordered from them?

Guys, if you're on the west coast, I COMPLETELY recommend Nesco Electronics out of San Francisco. They stock both OEM and generic STKs and have a lot of the odd value caps for CRTs and LCDs/Plasmas. Plus, a lot of older stock (70s 80s) flybacks etc. I'm not affiliated but I have done business with them for many years and they get a big thumbs up from me. No website, phone number is 800-824-4300

Well I ended up going with tvrepairkits for the STKs. One of the 3.15A mini fuses was blown too but I was able to get that from Digikey for less money. I got the parts within a few days. Put in the new parts and convergence looks good now.

FWIW I'm in western NY, tvrepairkits is in Texas.
