You should join the Facebook VHS tape collector groups. There's way more people there than ever were here and they're all buying and selling.

Will look at my local thrift stores as they have a long wall of VHS tapes, what does the cover art look like so I can distinguish it

I wonder if there's an original version of the movie in Hi-Fi stereo because who could watch it otherwise!?

What is the difference between the versions? I remember seeing the movie in the theater in late 76 (didn't think much of Richard Dufus) but I can't recall enough to know what is different in the special release.

I think they added more to the ending. It's a good movie but too freaking long! lol

VHS HiFi is analog bruh. You also get the lo fi linear audio tracks on a VHS tape no matter what.

And all the HiFi decks if you have the original remote let you select between the hifi and linear audio... Partially because some tapes with dual language put one language on linear and one of HiFi. Dudes just scared of audio frequencies above 3KHz, and wow and flutter specs better than a half dead bargain basement fisher price kids audio cassette deck...

For some people the higher frequencies can aggravate tinnitus so I can see where the low-fi linear would be an advantage.

I can see that. I still hear past 15khz and that's annoying sometimes. But I don't have tinnitus.
I have an ancient JVC pro VCR with only linear stereo audio and it's sound is surprisingly ok, good for those tapes where the HiFi audio has buzzing or whatever. It makes the cleanest picture I've ever seen on a regular VHS machine, only SVHS decks like the Mitsubishi HS-U80 and that one JVC something-8000 do better. Clean analog video (like LaserDisc) looks great upscaled on my 1080p LCoS projector, was even better when I had that Electrohome CRT projector but that thing wasn't worth the hassle |
