RCA VMT390 - Belt Replacement
I have an RCA VMT390 VCR which hasn't been used in 10-11 years, and it was acting somewhat intermittently at that time. So, I and am going to replace the belts just as a matter of course. I have the factory service manual and I bought a belt kit on eBay. The belts are not marked or identified & didn't include an info sheet, and the eBay seller wouldn't/couldn't provide me with this information.
I am a newbie at VCR service, and am requesting your advice & guidance on belt replacement. Should I just eyeball what belt should be used in what spot, or is there a more scientific way to do this? When you guys get belt kits, is it typical for them to not be identified? Thanks! |

Usually the belts are different enough to easily discern which goes where (assuming you find all the ones in the deck) and if 2 are identical then it doesn't matter which is which.
It is more or less basic IQ test round peg fits square hole type stuff. If it looks right gently try it, and if it don't fit try something that looks closer to correct based on the fitment problem you found.

Thanks! I guess I'm overthinking it.

The two (smallest) loading belts ARE rather similar in size. But, if memory serves, it's not too confusing. Good luck with your fix!
