Picked up an 11-tube Silvertone console and need the model number

Today, I picked up this decent looking Silvertone console for $38 at the flea market. It's an 11 tube set (including the tuning eye and rectifier tubes). The cabinet is dirty; but, I think it will clean up OK. The main thing is that the veneer is not peeling and falling off, like on so many consoles that I find around here. This radio has switches for bass boost, high boost, and a switched phono input. The main thing that worries me is the dial. It is either very dirty or very faded and unreadable. The paper with the model number is missing and the only part I can read of the chassis number is the 101 prefix; so, any help with a model number will be appreciated. I'm sure this will be a good radio once it's fixed.

What is the tube complement? I'm sure it's in Rider's.

Something you should consider adding is windshield wipers for the dial glass.

Try Googling the number on that stamped metal tag riveted to the chassis. If you have a lot of patience, you can sift through the Silvertone models listed on Nostalgia Air. I recently picked up one from '36 and one with parts donor that's newer, both were listed by 4-digit model number, the older one was in Rider's volume 8. Go to the public library and ask if they have Rider's or Beitman's and have at it.

Someone on ARF informed me that it's a model R111. It uses the following tubes:

6U7 - RF amp
6A8 - osc/mixer
6U7 - IF amp
6J5 - Det
6J5 - AVC
6Q7 - AF amp
6Q7 - Phase inverter
6V6 - output
6V6 - output
6U5 - tuning eye
5X4 - rectifier

That's a nice radio. From the looks of it the cabinet should respond to some touch up and cleaning without a complete refinish. The 101 prefix of the model number indicates it was made by Colonial, which I believe Sears owned from some time in the thirties.

According to my Mallory's, Silvertone R111 equals a Sears-Roebuck 101.615
I.F. freq. is 455 khz.
Riders is 12-7.
Good luck with it!

That is not a 5X4; I don't think there ever was such a number.

I did find a 5X4 listed in the obsolete tube section of my Sylvania tube manual and it recommends a 5U4 as a modern substitute.

The pin-out is different on a 5X4. Otherwise, it's basically the same tube. My Philco 38-116 uses one, where the 37-116 uses a 5U4.
